This month sees the end of development of the Nozzle Design Tool for Andritz Hydro AG. This tool is designed to assist the engineer when developing a new nozzle for a Pelton hydropower plant (wikipedia.org/Pelton-wheel). The tool takes the initial design data for the nozzle (forces, geometrical constraints, etc.) into consideration and calculates all necessary parameters for the CAD model, which consists of roughly 70 individual parts. A detailed PDF documentation of the calculations is generated for verification. The program then performs the cloning of the master model in NX and applies the newly calculated parameters – so-called expressions – to the model. The result is a complete CAD assembly built to the specifications of a new project, generated within minutes instead of days. The tool is designed as a “Plugin” for NX and runs within the CAD environment.
